Two Wins at the Black Podcasting Awards
We won. Twice.
Sista Brunch took home Best Cover Art and Best Guest Appearance at the Black Podcasting Awards. This show exists because of the people who make it, listen to it, and carry it forward.
Best Cover Art: Isaiah Montgomery
Our cover art was created by Isaiah Montgomery when he was 14. Isaiah is family to us, the son of Fanshen’s Bestie Tameka Montgomery, and we have watched his talent grow for years.
His recognition didn't start with us. In 2020, Isaiah won the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art's Superhero Contest. The contest asked young artists to choose a work from the museum's exhibition Heroes: Principles of African Greatness and imagine an African superhero inspired by it. Isaiah based his hero on an Ogoni face mask.
The museum's announcement page is no longer on the Smithsonian's site. The Internet Archive preserved it, and you can still read it here:
We're linking it because Black artists' stories deserve to stay on the record. When institutions take our history down, we keep it up.
Best Guest Appearance: Effie T. Brown
